Zen Garden > Why TV Serials Like "Lost" and "Prison Break" and "24" Annoy the Heck Out of MeHave you ever set aside a time every week just to watch a particular TV show that hooked your interest with its first completely over-advertised episode? OK. I confess. I got sucked in. There are/were three TV serializations that got me interested. These are Prison Break, Lost and 24.Sometimes I just like to sit down and do nothing for a while. I live a very busy life and I have lots of projects on the go all at once. Like so many others I also have my fair share of responsibilities to others so, my relaxation time is not that great. Have you ever set aside a time every week just to watch a particular TV show that hooked your interest with its first completely over-advertised episode? OK. I confess. I got sucked in. There are/were three TV serializations that got me interested. These are Prison Break, Lost and 24. I set aside the time to sit down with a nice drink and watch these shows. I watched for quite a few weeks and, apart from 24, I just can't seem to see where the other two are heading. In fact, I have completely given up on Prison Break. There just seems to be a bunch of guys running around the countryside trying to avoid the authorities, who, it seems are really the bad guys. Prison Break, in my summation is going nowhere. This leads me to Lost. Indeed this show is lost. I don't even think the script-writers know where it is heading. Every week promises to reveal more about why the plane crashed and what the secrets of the island are but every week it just gets more and more ridiculous. For a supposedly remote island it has got everything - a passing parade of new characters, a weird set of strange animals and monsters, a labyrinth of secret tunnels and a bunch of people whose backgrounds are so often shown but none of which makes us the viewers any the wiser. Truly, Lost is lost. Then we have 24. Good old Keifer Sutherland - aka Jack Bauer - should be wearing a superman costume because you cannot break him down with ANY form of torture, you can't shoot him, you can't blow him up and you certainly can't fool him. Jack is ALWAYS ready to be the fall guy for his beloved President. And if he whispers just one more time: "Mr President... we have a situation" or some other dumb line then I'm gonna give this show the flick too. Why does he always have to whisper? It's dumb. Apart from that there are so many double-crossers and triple-crossers and quadruple-crossers that it makes your head spin trying to figure out who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. So, I am ready to stop watching ALL of them. They are just too silly for words. No wonder people are turning to their computers for entertainment. The TV serials that promise to give so much end up giving so little. Well, maybe I just expect too much. Give me a good book any day, er night.
