Zen Garden > MLM - Why Most People DO NOT and WILL NOT Make More Money Than They Will Spend - Part FourOne of my biggest gripes during my 10 years in Multi Level Marketing was the telling of too many outright lies and half-truths and the deliberately misleading statements that were made. Most often these mis-truths were told by the "big-pins" (the leaders) on stage (and off). In this continuing series on exposing what really goes on in MLM I reveal even more about the inside goings-on. Read on to learn more...One of my biggest gripes during my 10 years in MLM was the telling of too many outright lies and half-truths and the deliberately misleading statements that were made. Most often these mis-truths were told by the "big-pins" (the leaders) on stage (and off). It is pretty well known now that over many years the big pins were accumulating vast fortunes through the SECRET COMMISSIONS that they were receiving on the tools. The tools, of course, were the books, the tapes and the functions. Often the value of these commissions were far greater than the base products of the business (the stuff you earn the PV and BV on). As I mentioned in Part Two of this series, this is known as "the business within the business." It is only spoken about at high pin levels. After my own admission into this upper echelon many things started to unsettle me. One question kept passing through my mind over and over again... ... if these marvellous examples of business LEADERS were, in fact, listening to the tapes and reading all the positive books then why had so many of them NOT grown personally? Far too many cited the oft hackneyed expression "irreconcilable differences" to explain their marriage breakdowns. Maybe, these excuses should have been called "irreconcilable dalliances." I recall distinctly a so-called LEADERSHIP meeting where all the males were put into one room and all the females into another. We were lectured on one of the ten commandments of the Bible. No points for guessing which one it was! Now, here is the twist... ... the Executive Diamond giving the lecture was later allegedly caught in bed with the sister of another Diamond distributor, a woman many years his junior and NOT his wife. Oh dear! Needless to say it was all hushed over, though spoken about incessantly behind closed doors and whispered about behind cupped hands. That was one well-publicised marriage split. Though I know the name I would never reveal it but the person involved featured prominently in a book called "Profiles of Success." I even have the page inscribed and signed by that person. Behind stage I was amazed at some of the comments that I would hear bandied around. You would swear that these supposedly great PROMOTERS of the system were not partaking of the program themselves. Sure, on stage they sounded wonderful. They looked great and when you got close enough they even smelled great. BUT... a lot of it was just a thin veneer. It was all for show. False smiles abounded - like the famous advert where the lady is smiling her face off and muttering beneath her breath "this girdle is killing me." When the big pins were on display they said and did all the right things. When they thought nobody was noticing they were just as bad as anybody else. The falseness of it all is what fazed me. I, myself, was instructed to "fake it until you make it." My mind screamed: "WHAT?" That was a directive from "upline." In the end that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I don't like to con people. I just couldn't and wouldn't fake it. That put me very offside with my immediate upline. They tried over and over to "explain" it. It was always for "the greater good of the group." I became aware of a number of BMW's and other luxury vehicles that were purchased under expensive hire purchase arrangements that were crippling the owners. These vehicles were put up as examples of what the business had provided. But it wasn't true. It just made the owners even more desperate to gouge money out of their downlines. Much of the so-called success was faked. In fact, almost ALL of it was. So was the personal growth. In the end I couldn't take the lies any longer. I did the only thing that my conscience would allow. I quit. That was my personal experience. BUT... if you are an existing MLM'er reading this then your MLM may be different. I hope it is. My advice, for what it is worth, is to be very watchful. If something goes against your conscience don't do it. Trading your soul isn't worth whatever money is being promised to you.
