Multi Level Marketing. What is the truth? This EIGHT part series will expose many of the techniques and controls that are used against newcomers to the MLM and Network Marketing industry. Intending newcomers to MLM should read this information BEFORE they commit themselves. This information comes with the statement that the author has had over 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE in MLM.

MLM - Multi Level Marketing - is a system whereby a selection of goods and services is distributed via a "team" of marketers all linked together in lines of "sponsorship." Those lines are called downlines.

Getting heaps of people into the downlines is considered the "glamour" work. Selling products to consumers is regarded as the "icky" side of the business.

It's one of the many things that the "big-pins" tell everyone else to do but don't want to do themselves. In fact, most of the so-called "advice" from the big pins, who are paid to deliver scripts from the stage pulpit, is incredibly biased and borders on fabrication of the truth. Here is an example:

From the glittering stage:

Dave Double-Diamond: "Go out and get yourself ten customers.

Voice from the enthralled crowd: "How many have you got Dave?"

Dave Double-Diamond: "And teach all your downline to do the same!"

Voice from the enthralled crowd: "How many have you got Dave?"

Dave Double-Diamond: "Betsy Double-Diamond looks after that. Next question?

The reality is this: No product movement = no profit.

You can sponsor 500 people into your downline but if very few of them consume products or sell products then all you have is a gaggle of people all doing nothing. And that is what MOST MLM's, network marketing systems and matrixes consist of - a whole bunch of people doing NOTHING!

Much of what you will hear "from the stage" and on the many tapes that are recorded from stage presentations sounds good but the truth can often be much different. There is a lot of pretending that is done.

I know about these things. I was involved in MLM in three major network systems for over 10 years. I was VERY motivated. I rose quickly up the ranks. I saw what was said and what went on behind the scenes. I could tell you some stories.

The reality is this...

... less than one third of one percent of the entire MLM membership make enough money to "retire" from their day jobs. To me, that ratio is far too low.

The time commitment is phenomenal. The products are excessively expensive. The cost of the books, the tapes and the many functions AND all the costs of travelling all have to be factored in.

Nobody will tell you that the success ratio is so incredibly LOW. And that is precisely why most people DO NOT and WILL NOT make more money than they will spend in MLM.

So, next time some "glassy eyed" MLM "virgin" tries to sponsor you into their downline you should direct that person to this article. The truth hurts but that hurt will be a lot less if the amount of money shovelled into the MLM is capped at an early stage. You will be doing that person a favor by alerting them to the truth before they spend all that money. I did just that and I strongly regret my mistake.
