Zen Garden > Illicit Drugs - Turning Normal Humans Into Mindless ZombiesIt's a sad world when so many wonderful young people screw themselves up with chemical cocktails that will undoubtedly bring about their demise. Sadder still is that everybody around them can see it so clearly and yet they cannot.Illicit drugs are the scourge of modern society. Many will criticize me for saying this but I believe they turn normal human beings into dysfunctional mindless zombies. Obviously, my most vehement critics will be those who choose to destroy their lives by swallowing, snorting and injecting themselves with all sorts of chemicals. But I don't care. We are now subjected to the drug "culture" on a daily basis. Terms such as "harm minimization" and "shooting galleries" (heaven forbid) and the disastrous "drug of choice" show just how much the drug epidemic has taken a stranglehold on our youth. What an indictment. What is going wrong? This scourge affects everybody. We all know somebody who is ruining their life and causing misery to all their relatives and friends. In addition to the human cost, homes are regularly burgled and trashed for cash and other items that can be easily pawned for drug money. Some young people are so hopelessly addicted that they steal from and assault their own parents. How sad is this? So many lives are being wasted all over the planet. In a recent story carried by Western Australia's Sunday Times newspaper we were told of a young woman called "Kate." Since the report broke she is being dubbed "Chemical Kate." Supposedly, this 25-year-old is an Accounts Manager. Here is the reported catalogue of her "normal" weekend drug taking activities:
Reportedly this young woman has done this routine every weekend for over a year. It costs her more than $400 just over the weekend - without the cost of the alcohol that accompanies it all. Over the year she would be spending, or should I say, wasting, well over $20,000. Is this living? Is this what a young person's life has come to today? The report goes on to say that this foolish woman earns $60,000 per annum. Assuming she pays tax of approximately $25,000 on that, she is left with $35,000. Her drug addiction costs $20,000 thereby leaving her the paltry amount of just $15,000 to live on. Here is a snapshot of her financial position: Gross salary $60,000 less tax of $25,000 = Net salary of $35,000 less drugs costing $20,000 = balance of $15,000. What a ridiculous waste. "Kate" is paying some lecherous drug dealer 57% of her net income to destroy her life. If you mentioned to her that she would be wise to spend $20 on a life-changing book she would probably dismiss such expenditure as a waste of money. The really stupid thing is that Kate believes she is in total control. Unfortunately, for Kate, all addicts believe this until it is too late. For her, I believe this time has already come. You simply cannot put so many mind-altering drugs into your body for such an extended period of time and not have long-term health effects and personality disorders. I wonder how much longer Kate will be able to hide this from her employer? By her own admission she states: "If my boss or my parents knew what I got up to, they would totally freak." She also says: "All my friends take just as many drugs." My message is CHANGE your friends Kate. Kate is heading rapidly down the path of self-destruction. I guess when she is sacked (probably for embezzling her employer) she will become just another street junkie or drug-crazed prostitute. It's a sad world when so many wonderful young people screw themselves up with chemical cocktails that will undoubtedly bring about their demise. Sadder still is that everybody around them can see it so clearly and yet they cannot. Wake up to yourself Kate before your family has to start making arrangements for your funeral.
