Alex Jeffreys Internet Marketing Coaching Module #7
by Gary ~ February 18th, 2009
Alex Jeffreys concluded his coaching programme today for the initial intake of some 500 students. How many are left still standing is unknown. Some never started, some fell by the wayside, some found it “too tough” and some just decided that Alex Jeffreys wasn’t the mentor or coach for them. I can’t say I feel particularly sorry for those who didn’t emerge into the sunshine from this Alex Jeffreys course. They made their decision – for whatever reason. They certainly had the same opportunity as those who finished did.
I guess it is like a University course, in some respects… some finish, some don’t. In life some people win while others lose. Anyway, I don’t want to focus on any of that too much longer. You can go to my thread on winners and losers if you are interested enough in the REASONS for this.
Some students were unable to make this last webinar for work reasons or family committments, so this summary is for them – and for any lurkers who come here wanting to avail themselves of free information.
OK. Get a cup of tea or that poison that some of you drink called coffee and settle in coz the Gazz-Man is gonna end this Alex Jeffrey’s coaching course with a BIG banging post. I haven’t done that for a while and now seems like an appropriate time. I might slap some people around a bit too coz I’m a bit frustrated with the attitude of some. So, click away now if you are a precious flower who only blooms at midnight when there is nobody around to see you.
Here we go…
Alex Jeffreys was asked before the session started (by Theresa Mayhew, I think) of what the MOST important thing was that HE had learned. Alex said, “The most important thing I have learned is to take action and step out of my comfort zone.” Then he also went on to say how he has also learned to sleep less. That was amusing. I think we have all had lessons in this. I know that there have been some days where I have had as little as 2 and 3 hours sleep just trying to get everything done as quickly as possible, and I work fast anyway. The massive size and complexity of this blog is proof of that.
Just on that point – realise this… you are gonna be dead for a bloody long time. Get all your “lost” sleep caught up with then. Seriously, only really lazy people with little ambition waste time getting too much sleep. It’s OVER-rated folks! Try doing with an hour less. It’s p155 easy when you try.
Most people seem to prefer my summaries in point form so here is a synopsis of the key points, in chronological order of presentation:
Sorry, but I simply cannot resist myself here! If you have NOT got a copy of my ACTION Planner yet then – yep, I’m gonna say this – you are a DILL – it’s FREE, it works, I use the methods myself, so do ALL those people who wrote short testimonials down the LHS margin of this blog. Am I bullsh*tt*ng you? NO! Are they? NO! So, if you don’t have it then you are at a disadvantage. I PURPOSE wrote that sucker for THIS COURSE. But is has such wide-spread application both online and offline.
Sure, I could sell the damn thing but it is here FREE! What are you worried about? That I might trap your email addy and try to FLOG you something down the track? Duh! Do what some other geniuses have done – download the bloody thing then unsubscribe immediately! It will be your loss anyway coz I have so much good stuff coming up soon. [Hmm, Stephen Bray... maybe, as you mentioned over at your blog, I AM getting like Gary Halbert! RIP]
My micro rant now being over we can go back to the Alex Jeffreys component of all this:
Short digression: Alex Jeffreys then presented a 12 month summary from December 2006 to December 2007 in a month by month breakdown of his activity. This was ineteresting. Briefly, he involved himself in…
Alex readily admitted that he wasn’t getting the results from all the effort he was putting in as this was a “LEARNING” stage. Now… I have mentioned this on several blogs where I have stated something along the lines of:
Unfortunately, so many have. I had a HUGE RANT (not unusual for me) on this over at Dean Holland‘s blog just recently. Dean, maybe you’d like to link to that page and tell everybody the number of that post. Seriously, some people want to be Usain Bolt before they are even out of daipers. Then they throw a wobbly when they aren’t making $20,000+ a month like Alex is. It takes TIME. Think of the J curve in finance. You, me, we are at the bottom of that J curve.
Back to the Alex Jeffreys material:
The following point is so pertinent that I am giving it special status. Alex Jeffreys said there are two groups of students:
1 – the ones who WORK their businesses
2 – the ones who expect OTHERS to do it for them
My question to YOU. Be honest! Which group do you KNOW you are in. You WILL know!
Moving right along with more notes…
Three critical elements for you to learn how to do:
2 -create your OWN product
3 – Build a list with that product
It’s NOW time to regroup and re-plan:
Alex Jeffreys then went on to say that, “Internet building, with all its different pieces is like a mad circus.” People get so distracted. HELL! I get distracted!
He then gave two really wonderful examples of comments made at the blogs of Gordan and Joe. Gordan gave an analogy of “children learning how to swim” and Joe spoke of everybody’s different “bag of tricks.”
Gordan and Joe – I am not sure who you are but I would really love a copy and paste of those comments at this blog, if you don’t mind. If anyone knows who they are please contact them and ask them to come to the Gazz-Man’s TEMPLE of learning for newbies and nail those comments to a notice board here for all the monks to read!
More salient points from Alex…
OK. Time for me to digress… again… (I know, I know) This is SO important I am gonna tell you something personal that I don’t normally like to bung on about too much, especially on my blog. But I’m gonna do it today coz this is MAKE or BREAK for everybody on the course. You can certainly skim read this next bit or just pass over it if you want.
Most of you are now aware that I have a black belt in karate. (It was an impossibility to keep shielding it anyway coz of those blasted aggregator sites that people have. So I came out and said it in point 5 of my “25 things about Gary” challenge that has been doing the rounds).
Please TRY to stick with me here coz I think it is very relevant…
When I attained that level I thought I was the “duck’s nuts.” Seriously. But I was wrong. It took me five years of beating myself to a pulp and being beaten to a pulp to get it. But what that really signified was one thing and one thing only – that I was teachable. Oh maybe it also proved that I could stick with something. But it showed that I could do the “basics” and pass a test on them. That is all.
Now, after almost 40 years of HARD and continuous training (incurring many injuries, some of them serious) I can see that so clearly now. I am on a much higher rung of the ladder now. A single black belt to me is such a rank beginner. They know so little. I don’t even like teaching at that level much. But it is a start. A foot on the rung of the ladder. That is where most of us are now in Internet Marketing, some are a little higher and some are a little lower.
[I hope you can appreciate how difficult that last part was for me to write. But for those who can relate to what I said, that was for YOU. If you didn't relate to it then just move on. I'm not gonna make a big deal of it.]
So here are your choices…
or
[b] are you gonna hang where you are?
or
[c] are you gonna start climbing your way to the top?
I could probably go on and on with more of what Alex Jeffreys shared in his final webinar module but I think you get the idea.
So, what is the Big Darn Online Secret? Alex Jeffreys didn’t really say, did he? Is there a secret? Heh! You think there is? If you want to keep searching for it then good luck. You see, IMO, there are NO secrets on the Internet. Information moves at the speed of the fibre-optic cables which is, effectively, light speed. And if there ever is a secret then it doesn’t last too long.
The only secret is the one that you hold in your brain. What are you gonna do with the knowledge you now have?
These were the main points of the one hour and fifteen minute concluding Module in the Alex Jeffreys Internet Marketing Coaching Course. As usual, I hope this smorGAZZboard of information helps those who were unable to attend.

PS: Congratulations and thankyou Alex Jeffreys on a job well done often under very trying circumstances. I am sure that the vast majority of the 500 learned many worthwhile things. I know I have. Bring on Las Vegas!
Gonna set my soul on fire
Got a whole lot of money that’s ready to burn,
So get those stakes up higher
There’s a thousand pretty women waitin’ out there
And they’re all livin’ devil may care
And I’m just the devil with love to spare
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas”

NB: I haven’t had time to correct any spelling or grammatical errors in this post properly yet. I’ll do that after I get back from the gym this evening. I just wanted to get this summary up FAST!

Gary,
I’ve just ‘Stumbled Upon’ this post and I want to thank you for all the teaching YOU have been offering us here at your Internet TEMPLE.
I meant what I wrote yesterday ~ I am cutting your Course summaries and pasting them into Word, printing them and keeping them as laminated cards for reference.
To my mind much of the value of this Program has been to do with meeting new people like Garry Parkes, Dean Holland, Harry Harris, Tara DiPalma, MinxyWitch, Thomas Northrop, to name just a few of the many people who have taken the trouble to contribute to my life, either by commenting at my blog, or writing entertaining stuff on theirs.
Of course you are at the very top of my list for value Gary ~ long may we keep in touch.

Stephen – I hardly know what to say to that. It makes me a bit lost for words really and that doesn’t happen too often – LOL!
My reward has been to interact with many fine people and I am just happy to be able to play a part.
Thank you for saying that. We will keep in touch.

Gary,
Another great post here,
When I got done with your synopsis of Alex’s call, I almost tried to hit the stop button – you recorded the thing man! It’s great, many will get value from it.
I appreciate your personal opening up there. I can relate in my own way. We must get to a certain level in anything before we can act on our own, be creative, truly do our own thing. Just as you indicated with Karate, arriving at Black Belt you are now at the place to begin being you, the unique martial artist.
Actually I’m not sure if most of us are at a level comparable to 1st deg Black Belt yet, however we are at a plateau, where we can asses ourselves, take stock and realize our competancy so that we can move forward more empowered than when we started.
As always, I appreciate your efforts
John
February 18th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Hi John – Yep, I said at the outset that it was gonna be a BIGGIE! I could have written a lot more too! I took 10 pages of notes and seemed to be writing furiously most of the time – apart from brief journeys on to Twitter.
I said on somebody’s blog the other day – it may have been Thom Swartwood‘s – that “a man’s gotta be what a man’s gotta be.” Or a woman.
It is very difficult to speak of some things that one has achieved without appearing bombastic, particularly with the things that I have done but they are the things that power me. So, I figure that most times it is best not speak of them at all. However, it just seemed so appropriate here on this occasion. So I did.
Thanks for your compliments
Gary

An excellent summary of last nignts webinar. Off the top of my head I can’t think of anything you left out from the summary.
Keep up the good work.

Gary,
Again an excellent summary. Your comments upon where we are in the learning curve are excellent. I especially like the comments comparing our advancement here to the martial arts. As John expressed I don’t know to what rank we might be comprable, but as you know in a group of students moving from the White belt to Black many will be lost along the way before you finally arrive at a group which is ready to learn and as you put it is “teachable”. In my profession(which i will reveal in my list of 25) I find the same thing. I have done training of others and you first must discover what you don’t know before you can truly learn.
The group which started the coaching program has made at least a a partial journey. Since this is a virtual classroom we cannot visualize how many of us actually remain. The group we are a part of is now poised to go out with tools that have been presented to us and to continue our individual journeys. Where that journey leads is within us. If we accept reaching a lower level of success or will be driven to become a “Grand Master” will be determined by the intensity of the fire in the gut.
One final comment (actually a question), I am already down to about 4 hours af sleep ( you are right it is over rated) but without this 4 hours the world tells me that I become something akin to what I imagine Bad Gary being on a BAD DAY and not sure I can give up one more except on occasion any suggestions?

Hi Gary,
Great overview of the class last night! Was a little sad at first when we all left the call, but I know it is just the real beginning of amazing things to come for those of us that “choose” to take what we have learned, and become “inspiration in action” for those on the fence, and people we have yet to meet.
The past two months have been difficult and fun. Ahead of some – behind others, but know I am where I need to be at this point in time.
Stretching and growing, moving out of your comfort zone is the only way we grow as people. When it gets uncomfortable and/or scarey, I know I am becoming my better & authentic self, and just keep moving…putting one foot in front of the other. Somedays a diamond, some days a stone, but growing the better for it all.
A big Thank You to All out there!!

Thanks again for such a great synopsis of last night’s call. Can you believe, the only one I didn’t make and it was the last one. I knew if I popped over to see you, you’d have everything right there, just waiting for me. I love your consistency!!

February 18th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Hi Gary!
RE:
Every time I see this, I bite my tongue.
Thought I’d offer my two cents on it this time around.
You’re wrong, you know. lol Okay – HALF wrong and half right.
Yes, people can “learn” first and then apply what they learned later.
Fact is, we can learn WHILE earning, too. Some people can learn information and apply it later. Other people learn better if they’re “doing” while learning. Hands on learning, so to speak.
But, in the world of IM, it’s scary to promise people they’ll actually MAKE money. Know why? Because there is always the risk that a disgruntled person will post smears all over the internet, even if their lack of success is a result of lack of effort.
So, for the “teachers” of skills, it’s much safer to say “learn now, earn later.” But there’s NO reason you can’t do both. Earning while learning.
Life and business are both about learning. We stop learning when we’re dead. The only question is WHAT we’re learning. Some people are so busy learning to be self-defeatists and quitters that it’s hard to teach them anything else. But we’re ALWAYS learning. Learning while earning is pretty cool, actually. It feeds the self esteem glands really well. lol
Way back in early 1999, before I met you, I ran a course I called “website magic” — every danged person in that class made money DURING the class. Every single one. I was proud of that. Many of them are still my clients today.
When I ran that class I told students that if they don’t have something to sell, they don’t belong in my class. Didn’t matter if it was tangible, non-tangible, or affiliate. As long as they had something to sell. Once they took a product, any product, and learned to SELL it online, they were learning through hands on experience. Not just learning, but DOING. Then they could replicate it with anything.
Of the 10 people that were in that class, all 10 are still online and still making profit online.
So, the “learning stage” and “earning stage” can be separate… but they do not have to be. They can also be simultaneous.
/rant. (thanks for lending me your soapbox. lol)
Linda
P.S. My apologies to anyone that’s waiting for an email from me. I’ve been up to my eyeballs in alligators, but I think I finally have the beasts beaten into submission. I should be caught up with email by tomorrow, knock on wood.
February 19th, 2009 at 12:46 am
@ Richard – Well thanks Richard. Like I said I could have written a LOT more. My trouble was in deciding what to leave out. And then I just HAD to do it, didn’t I? I had to have a mini rant. I need to control myself a bit better. I KEEP saying that. But I get fired up and I like to strike while the iron is hot, so to speak. I read back over some of my stuff and I think to myself… “self, should you have gone so hard on that?” and the answer I usually get is, “I dunno!” LOL! I guess people will tell me when I have over-cooked the meal.
@ Ken – Just for those who don’t know… most martial arts have 20 levels. They start at whitle belt and then move up through a series of colours (colors) that get progressively darker. Now there is a symbolism in all of that but I don’t really have the time or space to tell that here.
The belts start at 10th kyu (or student). They travel up through the numbers to 1st kyu. This is the level before the BIG test. But, in reality there are tests to achieve EVERY level. You have to know each level and ALL the levels before it – because you can be asked to demonstrate anything that has been previously covered. So, the knowledge base just keeps getting bigger and bigger – like an inverted pyramid.
The BIG test, of course, is the much coveted black belt, or 1st Dan (master – but that is NOT correct, by my standard of thinking anyway). The numbers then proceed upwards from 1st Dan to 10th Dan, with 10th Dan being the highest that anyone can ever achieve in a lifetime. Along the way there are many, many further tests – not all of them are physical. Some are mental, some are spiritual, but there is always a physical component.
I see this Alex Jeffreys Internet Marketing Coaching Course as having a similar ladder of proficiency. Alex himself openly states that he doesn’t know everything and he defers upwards to his own “senseis” (those who have gone before – that is all that word means) who in turn have their own teachers and so on.
Everybody can aspire to whatever level thay want and can achieve whatever level their internal drive and passion guides them to, just as in the martial arts.
I could go on forever in this subject. I am actually mid-way through writing a book that is gonna blow the “karate world” apart – some will think I am a genius, others will think I am an utter crackpot. Somewhere between the two, lies the truth – LOL!
Just finishing on the course – the problem, as I see it, is that too many people are expecting themselves to attain black belt level with just three months of training. THAT is where the expectation is so skewed. In martial arts, it takes a good 3 to 5 years to get that first black belt, depending on so many things – knowledge, ability, discipline, persistence, willingness etc, etc.
@ Lesley – very nice tweeting and twitting with you yesterday on Twitter – and now I feel like a right TWIT for talking in these horrendously absurd terms. Jeez! I cannot come to grips with this nomenclature – at all! I really do only just put up with it. However, the service is a good one when used correctly and to advantage.
You speak of comfort zones and stretching – good points. I have done many things during this course that have caused me to “wince” and become uncomfortable. But I have done them – and now, they don’t seem so bad.
Yes, we have days when we are on top of things and then we have days (like my first video shoot for the Motivational Moment series) where everything seems to conspire against us. But, we can give up and stay the same or we can push through and conquer. Just on that point, apart from shutting up my dogs, the second Motivational Moment Video was a heck of a lot easier. It will be up on this blog in a few short days. If you thought the last one was interesting or amusing then I can promise – this one is better!
@ Debbie – Thanks for your kind words. You have identified something that I am rather well known for – consistency. People who know me know what to expect at a professional level. What they NEVER know what to expect, however, is what I do on a personal level. In that regard, I always have people guessing, which is the way I like it. To be honest, I quite often surprise myself with what I do and say. But, professionally, I always maintain a standard of consistency and from that I always seek to rise above my last performance. So, consistency (and altering course from time to time to suit the prevailing winds) is what wins – eventually.
@Ken (again) – I’m coming over to have a look and make some appropriate and even “inappopriate” comments – LOL! See you soon.
Thank you all for taking the time out to come here and give me your feedback. It is always appreciated.
Gary

Hi Linda,
You got caught in my “approvals” file and I know why. These things:
I wasn’t infering that you cannot make money as you go. My point was that some people are expecting to make LOTS of money right from the get go and that just ain’t gonna happen. I think some people were expecting that.
I agree with this:
But it has a lot to do with skill, mindset, experience and even… luck!
I think that Alex Jeffreys did a GOOD thing in giving everyone a product to sell. Admittedly, it was his product and had loads of his links in it but, for beginners, it was way better than nothing. That at least gave everybody an opportunity to sell something. Along the way he mentioned many times for people to create their own products for the purpose of listbuilding. And that is a major component of the course.
Maybe there was an unreal expectation that the course was gonna “do it” for those who just wanted a “push button” cash cow. Eventually, it can become that but I refer back to my “J” curve example. Too many people expected to be way up the back of that J curve way too soon. It can happen but it takes time.
Personally I gave myself 90 days of learning before I would even begin to promote my stuff here.

Nikki….
Thank you, too. There is a lot of that… people not wanting to be accountable and lashing out. But there’s a lot of other things, too. There are plenty that prey on the vulnerable. If those ‘secrets’ are so secret, why don’t the secret-sellers just USE them to get rich instead of selling them?
Add to it the over hyped sales letters that promise the moon and stars but fail to deliver on those promises even to those that “worked” the system. Then sprinkle in the moon-chasers that never stick with any idea long enough to make it work because someone else had an offer that sounded more exciting.
All the worst of humanity is online. Fortunately, all the best of it is, too.
Yin and yang. It always comes back to that. : )
February 19th, 2009 at 7:16 am
@ Carmelle – Thanks for your nice comment. Yes, I do try to amuse and motivate and, at times, I provoke people to. For me, it is all about helping people achieve more. I see far too many people shackle themselves needlessly to a life of “what could have been but wasn’t.”
@ Linda – Yin and yang is one of my favourite concepts. There can be no good without evil for how would we be able to define it. Hmm, I just made that up. It sounds rather zennish, don’t you think? LOL!
What you said also reminded me of something I said on another blog, or it may have been here. I dunno. But… you know how fond I am of quoting myself – LOL! Or repeating myself – LOL again! I said something like… “those who offer Mount Everest but deliver the Bermuda Triangle.”
Oh that’s more than enough self-quoting for today.

Gary,
Managed to get a little bit more on top of my to-do list and pay you a visit.
It was a great course we’ve all been fortunate to be part of. I felt the same as Lesley above after the last call, “a little sad”, but I know we are at the start of a very long journey. A Journey that Alex himself readily admits he is still on and learning along the way.
I know that even though the course is finished many of us will still keep in contact and share our experiences, successes and failures along the way. It is what has made this course so good. Not just what Alex has taught us and inspired us to do but the great people we have met along the way and friends we have made. That alone is priceless.
So to everyone who has contributed in some way along the last 2 or 3 months I’d like to say a sincere thanks and look forward to keeping in touch as we carry on this journey.
Thanks for the opportunity of saying that on your wonderful blog Gary.
Catch you all later,
Garry
February 19th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Hi Garry – I am sure that many of us will keep in contact. It would be madness not to. My only regret is that I actually only got to interact with around 10% of the course participants. It is just too big a job trying to do any more with all the learning and other bits and pieces that have to be done.
Thanks Garry!

Great recap and comments. It seems we have lost a few F500 along the way, but I think the takeaways for those of us who stuck in there and are actually applying what we have learned are huge…along with the future JV relationships…it’s been a great past few months.

Hi Gary,
First off, I want to thank you for creating such an excellent resource site.
Many of us stop by to chat with you, learn from you, be motivated, and amused by you and it’s never boring.
Like someone else mentioned, I will be printing a copy of your post and pinning it to my bulletin board over my desk as a reminder. I take good notes, but your’s are already typed and easier to read
.
Alex said from the beginning that he is learning along with us. I respect him even more now because he stepped out of his comfort zone and taught this course. To me, that’s the biggest lesson learned because we could have gotten much of what he taught from the mass of info available on the internet. He added in things from his own experience and a lot of valuable info that he paid top dollar for. I really wanted to know what the most important thing he had learned because I would take that and put it in BOLD on my priority list.
Thanks again, Gazz and I look forward to what you have up your sleeve,
Theresa

Gary,
I have to give you a big ditto and agree with that everyone is saying here dealing with your post. In listening to module #7, one of the things I noticed Alex talked about was Accountable partners. He did a call with them once a week. I have to admit I think of you and Garry Parkes as some of my Accountable Partners. I think it would be great if we could find a way to actually talk to one another on a regular basis. I know how busy you are and I know how busy I am, although I think working together we could take Alex’s coaching program further.
Think about it..
If you get a chance I made a new post at my place about something I think you might get a kick out of… that or a new rant.
I also am finishing up the Leadership volume1 will be ready by the end of the weekend.
Thanks again for everything

Hi Theresa – That was nice. I was also glad to hear the question you asked and Alex Jeffreys‘ answer to it. It pleases me no end that people can come here and get all those things that you mentioned.
Yes, I do add some “colourfulness” here at times but it is all about providing something for everybody – hence my new bastardized word – “smorGAZZboard.” I just about had a fit when I wrote that the first time – LOL! Quite often I even amuse myself and I sit here laughing like an idiot and then wonder if anyone else will “get it.” And that makes me laugh even more at the prospect that they either may not or just think it is stupid. I know, I know – I am weird. But I have fun amid all the seriousness and it keeps me interested – as do all the comments.
Hi Thom – Yeah I am up for a chat with you but the time constraints and the different time zones are a real bitch to work around. I have spoken to Garry Parkes a number of times on his “Web Prosperity” VOIP software. It’s not too bad but there is a lag and an echo to get around. We actually had a session last night with JT and Carl Barton.
Oh my goodness… I am being tempted with the offer of a rant. I think people are now recognising that they can wind me up – LOL! We have a few people capable of delivering pretty good rants when they want. A couple of the ladies are pretty damn good at it – Linda Caroll and Nikki Stephens. Now, here is the interesting bit – compare the personalities of all three – TOO funny.
I’ll be over ASAP with a “rant in the bag,” so to speak.

Hi Gary,
First off a big apology for being absent without leave just recently, I normally like to get to you at least a couple of times a week but, I’m flat out on my first project !
As always Gary we can rely on you to fit a three hour call into a few paragraphs and still retain all the best bits.
As a few of the others have said the worst thing I think we could do now is drift apart. There are to many good people within this group for that to happen.
I am sure you are like me at the moment, absolutely chomping at the bit to move forward. As I said earlier I am well into my first project which will be for the boating industry (video tutorials for boat owners based on general maintenance, in the form of a membership site).
Whether I will remain solely in the IM niche only time will tell but, I am also half way through my first IM project, so who knows.
The one thing I would like to say though Gary, to you and all the other students who have helped and encouraged me through the last few months is, a very very big thankyou.
All the very best,
Paull

Hi Paull – You wanna know something really strange? Yeah? Good, coz I was gonna tell you regardless. I’m like that – LOL!
… I had you on my list of visits this morning. You see, I need to come by and watch your instructional video one more time just to check on how to do a little edit with something I am not quite happy with on my Motivational Moment Video #2. I was just about to er… don’t read this the WRONG way … come across. LOL!
Anyway, I agree that we should all network as a team and stick together. I also thank you for providing video instruction. I DEFO need it!
